In this first alpine leadership seminar of a series of three, mountain sports like climbing and mountaineering become more than adventure—they become training grounds for life and ministry. Develop grit that’s both tough and tender, and discover how outdoor leadership cross-trains for influence wherever God calls. Whether scaling peaks or leading people, this course will sharpen skills, deepen your faith, and ignite calling. By the end of this unit, students will be able to: demonstrate proficiency in tying essential climbing knots; properly execute belaying techniques with a focus on safety and communication; apply effective rope management skills in various climbing and mountaineering scenarios; identify and assess potential risks in alpine and ministry environments; collaborate effectively with team members to evaluate and respond to risks; demonstrate wisdom and discernment in navigating unexpected challenges; apply strategies to minimize risk while maximizing impact in outdoor ministry settings; connect the dots between outdoor experience and other avenues of life; reflect on outdoor experiences to identify transferable lessons for life and leadership; articulate how skills developed in alpine pursuits can shape personal growth and leadership in diverse contexts.; recognize the holistic impact of outdoor experiences beyond technical skill—on character, decision-making, and spiritual maturity.; begin to develop a framework for integrating outdoor leadership principles into other spheres of influence.
