Basic Leadership Seminar ( CHR 145 )

This is an in-service programme designed to assist in developing the leadership skills of staff in U of N schools. Students meet several times each week for discussion and instruction on such topics as pastoral skills, spiritual gifts, small group dynamics, basic management principles, and leadership of public meetings and outreaches. In addition each student meets regularly with a mentor for feedback and evaluation. Assignments include reading and reporting on a number of books covering basic leadership issues. This course is designed to help the students to staff a DTS and understand how a dts works. All the students are involved during the 12 week DTS Lecture Phase, in case of not having enough space to add students to the DTS Outreach Staff, we will provide an alternative leadership opportunity to serve our town, local churches and ministries (incl. a shorter international missions trip) for at least 8-14 weeks. We run this course as a one year course as a part of our 3 year Leadership Training Program. Our course goes beyond the time of staffing a DTS, this will make it a stronger course and will improve the qualities of our DTS we run at YWAM Davos. The Students will receive 12 Credits for this course.

Discipleship Training School (DTS) ( DSP 211 )

This school is an intensive Christian discipleship course beginning with an 11 or 12-week lecture/teaching phase followed by an 8-12 week practical field assignment. It is a prerequisite for all other courses in the University of the Nations, and also serves to orient and prepare all new Youth With A Mission (YWAM) staff. The DTS is designed to encourage students in personal character development, cultivating their relationship with God and identifying their unique gifts and callings. Cross-cultural exposure and global awareness are special emphases throughout the course, preparing the students to evangelize and disciple current and future generations, answering the call "Go into all the world and teach (make disciples of) all nations." (Matthew 28:19). The curriculum is in the following six major categories: 1. nature and character; 2. intention for individuals, peoples and nations; seeing all of life from 3. perspective; redemption, sin, and the Cross; 4. family - the Church; 5. world - His call and commission 6. the ministries of YWAM. In Winter we run a focused DTS for Snowboarders & Freeskiers and during the summer the Bike-Hike-Climb DTS. Our heart is to give our students an environment of love and acceptance to grow and mature in Christ, to reconcile with their past and launch into a future of purpose and hope. We may also run other DTS with a new focus or a classic one. Credit will be given for this course with satisfactory completion of DSP 212.

Forge - Introductory Leadership Seminar ( CHR 147 )

This Introductory Leadership Seminar is usually given in conjunction with with the Introductory Leadership School or the School of Ministry Development (CHR 241). It enables students to discover and develop their gifts and talents in leadership roles. Through the classroom sessions, participants discover their spiritual and motivational gifts, and learn about vision development, spiritual leadership and communication skills for leaders.

German Language Seminar - Level 1 ( HMT 151 )

This seminar is designed to equip YWAM staff for working in an German speaking environment. It covers the basic language skills (listening and speaking, reading and writing) while also giving solid foundations in German grammar. The Course follows the guidelines of the Göthe Institute Level A1. Another Seminar will be held for Level A2.

Introductory Bible Course ( CHR 227 )

In this course students are equipped with tools for in-depth personal Bible study.  It combines quality teaching, personal study, and practical application in order to help students develop a modest vocabulary and basic familiarity with the Scriptures as preparation for more advanced courses.  There are several Bible schools offered under the banner of “Introductory Bible Course”.  The one course that has multiplied to many locations internationally is: Discipleship Bible School (DBS) - In this course students are equipped with tools for continual development of personal Bible study. Throughout the course students will grow in their understanding of the nature and character of God, how to live in and contribute to community, the importance of covenants, how to communicate God’s redemptive plan, how to use the Word in a ministry context, and discovering the “big picture” of Bible (overview). A disciplined learning environment helps prepare the student for a lifetime of Bible study. Through the facilitation of small groups and the creation of community, the DBS emphasizes personal discipleship and godly character. Additionally, the school focuses on a variety of Biblical topics building on the foundation established in the Discipleship Training School. This course meets the U of N Core Curriculum requirement for Bible.

Introductory Leadership Practicum I ( CHR 243 )

An extended practical mentoring experience for potential young leaders, including work in many departments in a YWAM centre, one-on-one sessions with leaders, classroom lectures, small group leadership and organizational training. We would love to see a multiplication happen, that is a pioneering work somewhere else or locally. This will be a highly individualized course we will run with very limited student numbers. Most of the content can be taught locally but we also send the students to specific workshops and gatherings to maintain good relationships and variety of speakers. We run this course as a one year course as part 3 of our 3 year Leadership Training Program.

Leadership Training Program Part 1 (SOMD) ( CHR 241 )

This introductory level leadership courses is designed as an in-service programme with the goal of training team members and leaders, equipping them for servant leadership and giving opportunity for personal growth and development. Topics like understanding YWAM history and values, spiritual disciplines for leaders, time management, fundraising, personal ministry development, calling, purpose and vision, identity of a leader, conflict resolution, as well as our local expression, vision and values at YWAM Alps - Davos, Switzerland. LTP Part 1 (SOMD) is part of our Leadership Training Program, equipping students to become excellent team members and reliable ywam staff for up to 4 years. For non-native German speakers we also include a 6 week German Language Seminar each year. The Students will receive 12 credits for the lecture part of this course and an 12 credits for the field assignment part.

Leadership Training Program Part 2 (ILP) ( CHR 243 )

School of Ministry Development ( CHR 241 )

Leadership schools come in different forms, designed to meet the needs of the students, equipping them for servant leadership while giving opportunity for personal growth and development. School of Ministry Development (SOMD) - During this school students discover and develop their gifts and talents in leadership roles. The course is especially designed for new staff at YWAM centres and is adapted to the context of the language and culture of the country in which it is taught. Some of the topics are: understanding the core values of YWAM, perspectives on missions, generational thinking, transforming cultures, personal fund-raising, worship and evangelism, personal ministry development, public speaking, spiritual authority, and conflict resolution. We run this course as a one year course as part 2 of our 3 year Leadership Training Program. Our course goes beyond the minimum time of a classic SOMD, this will make it a stronger course and will improve the qualities of our Ministries at YWAM Davos and the impact we have in our town and beyond. During the time the students will receive a minimum of 12 weeks of SOMD lecture and 12 weeks of SOMD Outreach. The Students will receive 24 Credits for this course.

School of Worship ( CHR 261 )

The School of Worship imparts foundational values and principles to those intending to serve in worship among the nations. Topics include character and lifestyle as a worshiper, understanding the work of the Holy Spirit in worship, applying worship principles within a cross-cultural context, the biblical and historical aspects of worship, leadership and teamwork, the dynamics of worship and intercession, prophetic ministry, spiritual warfare, creativity and musicianship, and worship in missions and evangelism.
