Bible Core Course ( CHR 211 )

This Course gives students a good understanding of the Inductive approach to Bible study, learning how to think critically, equipping them with tools for life. The students read through the whole Bible and every type of biblical genre is studied, with books from both the Old and New Testament. All types of teaching and learning styles are experienced. A NT Timeline and OT Timeline are completed, bringing a great overview of the Bible. Students learn how to memorize and meditate on the Word. They are given opportunities to gain experience in facilitating a Bible study, and enhance their skills in teaching and preaching the Word. They study Hebrew poetry through Psalms and Proverbs and the historical background of each book.

Design Seminar ( CMC 125 )

This entry-level course focuses on understanding the history and principles of design work. The main topics are: The creator God; Design Principles; Color Theory; Design Composition and Theology; Adobe Photoshop; Adobe Illustrator.

Discipleship Training School ( DSP 211 )

This school is an intensive Christian discipleship course beginning with an 11 or 12-week lecture/teaching phase followed by an 8-12 week practical field assignment. It is a prerequisite for all other courses in the University of the Nations, and also serves to orient and prepare all new Youth With A Mission (YWAM) staff. The DTS is designed to encourage students in personal character development, cultivating their relationship with God and identifying their unique gifts and callings. Cross-cultural exposure and global awareness are special emphases throughout the course, preparing the students to evangelize and disciple current and future generations, answering the call to “Go into all the world and teach (make disciples of) all nations.” (Matthew 28:19). The curriculum is in the following six major categories: God’s nature and character; God’s intention for individuals, peoples and nations; seeing all of life from God’s perspective; redemption, sin, and the Cross; God’s family - the Church; God’s world - His call and commission; the ministries of YWAM. Focused DTS’s: In some locations the DTS is offered with a particular focus, such as the Crossroads DTS (YWAM CDTS), Operation Year DTS, University DTS, Sports DTS, Arts DTS, etc. Credit will be given for this course with satisfactory completion of DSP 212.

Introduction to Communication & Cross-Cultural Media ( CMC 287 )

The audiovisual word can be thought of as a Church where the arts come together, where sounds and image are combined in order to communicate. The curriculum includes script, direction, production, editing and acting among many others. The purpose of this school is not only to show how to use different techniques to create audiovisual products, but also how to apply these tools in sharing the gospel. They can be used to communicate the values of the Kingdom of God in our society and specifically in places with little or no knowledge of Christ. Topics include: dramatic filmmaking, scriptwriting, documentary filmmaking, photography, editing, production, digital cinema, biblical worldview in arts and cross-cultural communication. This course meets the U of N Core Curriculum requirement for Communication. Course Context: During the 12 weeks lecture phase, students experience and apply what they are learning in a practical way leading them to make a movie in the city, which is concluded in the end of the lecture phase. Besides that, there is also an opportunity to join a outreach phase producting a movie in an area less evangelized or in cinematpgraphic productions with a local film-maker. We also offer a three months intership.

Mobile Media Seminar ( GEN 181 )

The idea of this seminar is to offer fundamentals and basic techniques of audiovisual for making videos (documentaries, institutional, Youtuber, Instagram and films), as well as concepts for the good use of digital platforms. Also how to apply this tool to communicate the values of the Kingdom of God in society.

Portuguese Language and Culture I ( APL 241 )

The Escola de Português para Missões (Portuguese for Missions) is designed to equip non-Portuguese speakers with a heart for Missions with basic Portuguese communication skills while learning about Brazilian culture through fun, interactive classroom and field activities. Our goal is to help students practice their language skills in order to fulfill the calling God has placed in their lives, be it in Brazil or any other Portuguese speaking country.

School of Biblical Christian Worldview ( HMT/SCI 213 )

This course takes a historical look at the prevailing philosophies and ideologies that lie beneath the social and political issues of present day societies. It encourages students to become responsible Christians in society, and to exercise positive influence wherever they work and serve. Students delve into topics such as the meaning and components of a worldview and how to apply biblical Christian thinking to contemporary issues. Each student is required to write a paper under the guidance of an advisor. This course meets the U of N Core Curriculum requirement for Applied Christian Thinking.

School of Fashion Design ( ATS 223 )

We believe that Fashion is an area of ​​influence where we can work on questions of image, identity, behavior, sexuality, self-esteem and instrumentalization. Being able to use these tools as an evangelism strategy, influencing the environment, with the purpose of helping and reaching people for the Kingdom. A new mentality in thinking about Fashion and its consequences in society. A school that seeks in God to redeem pre-established concepts and to take a new missionary vision to this social sphere. Fashion as a tool of appreciation, social change and health promotion, God at the center, being all in all.
