A course designed for those who want to become advocates for children and work to see lasting change in their lives. The focus is on children who have been placed at risk because of factors such as war, disease, poverty, exploitation, abandonment, disability, and other forms of injustice. Students are given an overview of the needs of at risk children as well insight concerning child development. An emphasis is made on intervention and working towards advocacy for children. More specific instruction is provided on issues relating to street children, HIV/AIDS, sexual abuse, and attachment disorder, depending on the location of the school and the needs of children in that setting.

Bridge

Introductory level leadership courses are known by various names at various YWAM/UofN training centres, but generally have similar goals of training staff and leaders at those centres, equipping staff for servant leadership and giving opportunity for personal growth and development. Topics will vary according to the location. Typical topics include understanding YWAM history and values, spiritual disciplines for leaders, time management, fund-raising, personal ministry development, calling, purpose and vision, identity of a leader, conflict resolution, and other topics pertitent to leadership development in a particular locale.

School of Ministry Development

Leadership schools come in different forms, designed to meet the needs of the students, equipping them for servant leadership while giving opportunity for personal growth and development. Two emphases offered in this category of school are: School of Ministry Development (SOMD) - During this school students discover and develop their gifts and talents in leadership roles. The course is especially designed for new staff at YWAM centres and is adapted to the context of the language and culture of the country in which it is taught. Some of the topics are: understanding the core values of YWAM, perspectives on missions, generational thinking, transforming cultures, personal fund-raising, worship and evangelism, personal ministry development, public speaking, spiritual authority, and conflict resolution. School of Pioneer Leadership Development (SPLD) - This school has the goal of equipping young leaders to pioneer new YWAM bases, schools or ministries. Students will receive tools to help them in becoming effective learners and leaders -- learning the culture, and in some cases the language, of the people where they will pioneer. Topics include: team building, principles of pioneering, servanthood, foundational leadership practices, mentoring, coaching, and the role of intercession in pioneering. Students may have opportunity to work alongside ministries that are in a pioneering phase of development. A recommendation from a YWAM leader is required for entry into this course.

Discipleship Bible School

In this course students are equipped with tools for in-depth personal Bible study. This course combines quality teaching, personal study, and practical application in order to help students develop a modest vocabulary and basic familiarity with the Scriptures as preparation for more advanced courses. It gives comprehensive coverage of many facets of Bible study such as inspiration and canonization of the Scriptures, hermeneutics, Biblical ethics, Old Testament survey, basic Greek, New Testament survey, Church history, and homiletics. A disciplined learning environment helps prepare the student for a lifetime of Bible study. This course equips you to joyfully, passionately, and correctly handle the Word of God. How? We will explore the one Story that ties all the books of the Bible together and read almost the whole Bible. You will be trained to study the Bible together and individually in a reliable and practical way: inductive Bible study. Music Education and Missions II

Prerequisite: DTS Music Education and Missions III is a 12-week intensive leadership and teacher training course in instrumental music education, ministry, and missions. This course is designed for the student who has a passion for reaching the orphaned, abandoned, refugee, and at-risk children and young people of the world through instrumental music education, evangelism, and discipleship - equipping them to be musical ambassadors with a life-changing message for their own people and the nations of the world. This training course is also designed to equip the student to be a qualified teacher/discipler in YWAM Symphony of Hope - an international YWAM ministry founded by Doug McClure. Music Education and Missions III is followed by Music Education and Missions IV. Each course is 12 weeks in length and will run in two consecutive quarters resulting in 24 total weeks of lecture phase. Upon completion of Music Education and Missions IV, the student will be required to participate in the Music Education and Missions III & IV combined outreach Field Assignment course. The main focus instruments of this course are strings - violin, viola, cello, and bass. Foundations for Counseling Ministry

A course to equip those who feel called to reach out to broken, hurting people. As the entry course into degrees in the College/Faculty of Counseling and Health Care, it establishes the foundation stones for a biblical counseling ministry, especially within YWAM and the missions community. Using Scripture as the standard for analyzing educational models and practices, this course provides potential educators and those who work with children in any context a solid foundation for their future work. April 2023 Introduction to Staff and Leadership Development

Purpose & Leadership Development (accredited as the Certificate IV in Christian Missions/C4CM). The heart of this internship is to equip staff to be effective missionaries, and more specifically, to be effective YWAMers, to understand our DNA as a mission and to be equipped for their calling and destiny in missions. Like all YWAM schools, the C4CM includes character development and modelling Jesus in lifestyle and ministry. First Time School Leader Workshop

This course is intended to familiarize experienced DTS leaders with the fundamental skills to lead a UofN school and specifically a DTS. It is designed to not only impart information, but to give time and room for the participants to manipulate and practice using the information in the design and application of their own schools. By the end of this one week seminar, each participant will leave with an executable plan for a DTS or other UofN course. This course is a mix of both practical tools, plans, and principles that can be immediately utilized as well as stored away for later application when the time comes. Children at Risk

A course designed for those who want to become advocates for children and work to see lasting change in their lives. The focus is on children who have been placed at risk because of factors such as war, disease, poverty, exploitation, abandonment, disability, and other forms of injustice. Students are given an overview of the needs of at risk children as well insight concerning child development. An emphasis is made on intervention and working towards advocacy for children. Missions Seminar

This 2 week seminar is offered in conjunction with the Ministry of Development Seminar (CHR 147). This seminar was created to motivate and mobilize people to work for the purpose of transforming the least-reached communities of the world, and to place workers in church planting, strategic coordinator or administrative roles. Another goal of this seminar is to assist participants in developing a clear focus and plan for getting involved in fulfilling the Great Commission and in seeing people groups and nations transformed. This seminar provides the opportunity for students to explore and discover biblical solutions to major social issues in urban centres, such as prostitution, gender identity issues, street children, crime, and various forms of abuse. Biblical principles for spiritual warfare and intercession, as well as training in spiritual mapping; equip the student for practical ministry. This is a two-week programme drawing from the concepts taught in the School of Strategic Missions (see CHR 235, Strategic emphasis). The biblical and strategic foundations for missions used throughout human history are key elements in the seminar. It examines issues of globalization and how to strategically reach the unreached, while also helping participants in planning their involvement in strategic mission endeavors.

The Sports and Fitness Seminar is a six week "taste of missions" lifestyle through sports that will enable you to use sports to serve London and the major cities of the world. These three months are split up into a ‘preparation phase’ and an ‘outreach phase’. The Sports Seminar focuses on growing students in their athletic skills, both individually and playing in a team. Our main goal is to do sports as a mission, reaching and connecting with people where they are at. We believe that God has called us to disciple and invest in young people, and a way of doing so is to reach them through sports and fitness. We see sports and fitness as an opportunity to do outreach, as well as learning a lot about yourself and your role in a team. We aim to spend time practicing individual skills during the week and then be doing sports as a part of outreach.

The aim of this course is to learn baristas skill and coffee skills to reach out to people in all spheres of society and create community. By the end of the course our aims is that your is a level of a skilled working barista,  Manager or Owner, able to work confidently in a coffee environment. Seeing The Scriptures

The vision of this school is to teach people how to study whole books of the Bible inductively focusing on skill development of tools given in the course. The foundational exercise on which the rest of study will be built is phrase diagramming as seen in commentary series such as ZEC and EGGNT. The idea of this approach is for students to format the text of a book to reflect the relationships of one phrase to the next. The other emphasis will be a discourse analysis approach to interpretation of the message of whole books. The students will employ both the literary and the Socio-Historical context of a book in the interpretation of the details. Finally, the student will learn to communicate the message of a book for contemporary culture through application to life and through a variety of other communication media.

Humanities & Science: A Christian Perspective

This core course of the U of N aims to present, examine, and celebrate God's truth and work in every area of life, in alignment with Philippians 4:8, an exhortation to meditate on whatever is true, honorable, just, sacred, lovely and of good report. It encompasses the humanities and science and technology, looking at the achievements and failures of individuals, societies, and nations, past and present. The course allots eight weeks of study to humanities, and four weeks to science, though the goal is an integrated approach. The Advanced Leadership Development (ALD) course (accredited as the Diploma in Christian Missions Leadership) is an extended practical mentoring experience for potential young leaders, including work in many departments in a YWAM centre, one-on-one sessions with leaders, classroom lectures, small group leadership and organisational training. Leadership schools come in different forms, designed to meet the needs of the students, equipping them for servant leadership while giving opportunity for personal growth and development. Two emphases offered in this category of school are: School of Ministry Development (SOMD) - During this school students discover and develop their gifts and talents in leadership roles. The course is especially designed for new staff at YWAM centres and is adapted to the context of the language and culture of the country in which it is taught. School of Pioneer Leadership Development (SPLD) - This school has the goal of equipping young leaders to pioneer new YWAM bases, schools or ministries. Topics include: team building, principles of pioneering, servanthood, foundational leadership practices, mentoring, coaching, and the role of intercession in pioneering. Primary Health Care

Primary Health Care training reaches 80% of the world’s health needs through both preventive and curative training, including basic clinical skills to treat the most common health issues and causes of death. Students are equipped to train and teach in primary health education. Curriculum is based on the eight essential keys for the health of communities: food and nutrition, health education, disease, water and sanitation, clinical care, maternal  and children’s health, essential drugs and community resources. The Primary Health Care School gives a biblical approach to health for the poor and needy; it equips students to function as a primary health care worker in developing and less resourced areas.

AME School of Performance and Production

The AME School of Production with Dance, Acting, and Music Specialties is a third-level University of the Nations course which is run at YWAM Rosario, Argentina by their art ministry, AME Company (Artists in their Maximum Expression). With a central focus on the professional development of the artist’s technique and character, the school offers students training in one of three different specialties: dance, acting, or music. Students enrolled in the AME School may choose only one area to study in. Each specialty covers separate curriculums designed to prepare, train, and develop professional Christian artists who are called to reach and transform this sphere of society. Parallel to the technique studies, all students of the AME will receive teachings on biblical foundations of the arts such as character of the artist, co-creating with God, and the Spiritual power of the Arts to name a few. We look for artists who want to leave it all on the floor; dancers, actors and musicians who are willing to do what it takes to be integral, professional, and transcendent in their gifts. The school lasts 6 months and is divided in three parts: the theoretical/technical phase (3 months), the research phase (1 month), and the production phase (2 months). Upon arrival students will enter the production phase where they will study different aspects of production such as wardrobe, makeup, set design, illumination and sound, script study, choreographic and musical composition etc. To finalize the school, students will work together with their peers and teachers to create a final piece. The production phase will be dedicated to theoretical classes, choreographic and musical composition, general and stage rehearsals, and wardrobe. The school will end with a two-week tour of the final production performed in important theaters around the city.

This Course gives students a good understanding of the Inductive approach to Bible study, learning how to think critically, equipping them with tools for life.The students read through the whole Bible and every type of biblical genre is studied, with books from both the Old and New Testament. All types of teaching and learning styles are experienced. A NT Timeline and OT Timeline are completed, bringing a great overview of the Bible. Students learn how to memorize and meditate on the Word. They are given opportunities to gain experience in facilitating a Bible study, and enhance their skills in teaching and preaching the Word.They study Hebrew poetry through Psalms and Proverbs and the historical background of each book.

Bible For Life

This course equips you to joyfully, passionately, and correctly handle the Word of God. How? We will explore the one Story that ties all the books of the Bible together and read almost the whole Bible. You will be trained to study the Bible together and individually in a reliable and practical way: inductive Bible study. To accomplish this, you will study one or more books of each main biblical genre in depth: a historical book, prophet, letter, etc. Having completed the course, you can use and improve your developing inductive study skills the rest of your life. Moreover, you will practice Bible meditation and grow your ability to share the Word: lead a Bible study group or deliver solid biblical preaching. This 12-week course is designed to practically develop and disciple new leaders in their character, skillsets, and vision to prepare them for staffing in the various areas of ministry at YWAM Furnace NZ and beyond. This school aims to train and equip new talent to be relevant storytellers using visual media to document facts, real-life stories, and events with honesty and integrity. Leadership schools come in different forms, designed to meet the needs of the students, equipping them for servant leadership while giving opportunity for personal growth and development. Two emphases offered in this category of school are: School of Ministry and Development (SOMD)/ Ministry and Leadership Development (MLD) - During this school, student's discover and develop their gifts and talents in leadership roles. This Course gives students a good understanding of the Inductive approach Bible study, learning how to think critically, equipping them with tools for life. The students read through the whole Bible and every type of Biblical Genre is studied, with books from both the Old and New Testament are studied inductively. A NT Timeline and OT Timeline are completed, bringing a great overview of the Bible.  Study for life change is what we do, and transformation is a key element. Leadership schools come in different forms, designed to meet the needs of the students, equipping them for servant leadership while giving opportunity for personal growth and development. Two emphases offered in this category of school are: School of Ministry Development (SOMD) - During this school students discover and develop their gifts and talents in leadership roles. The course is especially designed for new staff at YWAM centres and is adapted to the context of the language and culture of the country in which it is taught. Some of the topics are: understanding the core values of YWAM, perspectives on missions, generational thinking, transforming cultures, personal fund-raising, worship and evangelism, personal ministry development, public speaking, spiritual authority, and conflict resolution. School of Pioneer Leadership Development (SPLD) - This school has the goal of equipping young leaders to pioneer new YWAM bases, schools or ministries. The goal of the School of Photography (SOP I) is to inspire and train Christians to use photography as a communications tool for the Kingdom of God. That may be through business or more traditional missions. These schools may be unique in teaching photography from a Christian perspective: not just what we do, not just technique, but how our knowing Christ should make a difference. We seek students who have a passionate, burning desire to go beyond a self-centered, "personal enrichment" or hobby level, who want to use their camera to serve others. The SOP I is very concentrated twelve week course, so students must be highly motivated and teachable. There are two levels of the photography school available in the UofN. They are the School of Photography I and School of Photography II. Both are all digital. The School of Photography I, including color and black+white, is the first level. The School of Photography II, including color and black+white, is the second level. Successful completion of the SOP I is required for the SOP II. About the SOP I internship: After completing the School of Photography I (CMC 241) students gain practical experience through three months of on-the-job training, supervised by a professional photographer, in either a mission or business setting. Scholarships and adjusted tuition for SOP I, II and SOP Internships may be available upon request.

A course to equip those who feel called to reach out to broken, hurting people. As the entry course into degrees in the College/Faculty of Counseling, it establishes the foundation stones for a biblical counseling ministry, especially within YWAM and the missions community. Family Ministry School / Foundations for Family Studies

This course introduces students to the biblical foundational of family life and ministry. The lecture phase uses a template in which the curriculum is broken down into nine major categories, with a minimum of one week devoted to each of these categories. The nine categories are to be viewed as the central core, around which the FFS template is to be built. The nine categories are: biblical worldview of family, a biblical family model, Family of Origin model, marriage relationships, parenting, basic ministry skills, family life, basic counselling skills for helping families, and families in ministry. In this course students are exposed to and practice a variety of writing genres as recognized writers share expertise on narrative and thematic writing, fiction, feature articles, and editing. This course is intended to familiarize experienced DTS leaders with the fundamental skills to lead a UofN school and specifically a DTS. It is designed to not only impart information, but to give time and room for the participants to manipulate and practice using the information in the design and application of their own schools. By the end of this one week seminar, each participant will leave with an executable plan for a DTS or other UofN course. This course is a mix of both practical tools, plans, and principles that can be immediately utilized as well as stored away for later application when the time comes. This course delves into the biblical foundation of "Business As Missions" (BAM), and trains participants in the basics of starting a business, as well as demonstrsting how business can be used in bringing the Gospel to restricted nations, empowering the poor and needy, leading to transformation of communities and nations. Some of the topics covered include understanding the concepts and history of missions in general and BAM in particular, entrepreneurship, creating vision and mission statements, developing a business plan, marketing, Innovation, sales and distribution, risk-taking in faith, and discipleship and leadership in business.

Advance-Ministry & Leadership Development

Introductory level leadership courses are known by various names at various YWAM/UofN training centres, but generally have similar goals of training staff and leaders at those centres, equipping staff for servant leadership and giving opportunity for personal growth and development. Topics will vary according to the location. Typical topics include understanding YWAM history and values, spiritual disciplines for leaders, time management, fund-raising, personal ministry development, calling, purpose and vision, identity of a leader, conflict resolution, and other topics pertitent to leadership development in a particular locale.

Photography Discipleship Training School (DTS)

This school is an intensive Christian discipleship course beginning with a 12-week lecture/teaching phase followed by an 8-12 week practical field assignment. It is a prerequisite for all other courses in the University of the Nations, and also serves to orient and prepare all new Youth With A Mission (YWAM) staff. The DTS is designed to encourage students in personal character development, cultivating their relationship with God and identifying their unique gifts and callings. Cross-cultural exposure and global awareness are special emphases throughout the course, preparing the students to evangelize and disciple current and future generations, answering the call to; "Go into all the world and teach (make disciples of) all nations."; (Matthew 28:19). Seeing The Scriptures

The vision of this school is to teach people how to study whole books of the Bible inductively focusing on skill development of tools given in the course. The foundational exercise on which the rest of study will be built is phrase diagramming as seen in commentary series such as ZEC and EGGNT. The idea of this approach is for students to format the text of a book to reflect the relationships of one phrase to the next. The other emphasis will be a discourse analysis approach to interpretation of the message of whole books. The students will employ both the literary and the Socio-Historical context of a book in the interpretation of the details. Finally, the student will learn to communicate the message of a book for contemporary culture through application to life and through a variety of other communication media.

This program lays essential foundations in biblical communication, while advancing the individual's skill and confidence in speaking, writing and listening. It aims to sharpen the student's ability to communicate clearly through cross-cultural and interpersonal dynamics, and equips students with principles of preparing and delivering a message to a variety of audiences. Through provoking instruction and discussion, practical assignments, and video evaluation, students discover their place and potential as effective influencers in the public forum. This course meets the U of N Core Curriculum requirement for Communication.

In this course students are equipped with tools for in-depth personal Bible study. It combines quality teaching, personal study, and practical application in order to help students develop a modest vocabulary and basic familiarity with the Scriptures as preparation for more advanced courses. There are several Bible schools offered under the banner of “Introductory Bible Course”.  The one course that has multiplied to many locations internationally is:

Discipleship Bible School (DBS) - In this course students are equipped with tools for continual development of personal Bible study. Throughout the course students will grow in their understanding of the nature and character of God, how to live in and contribute to community, the importance of covenants, how to communicate God’s redemptive plan, how to use the Word in a ministry context, and discovering the “big picture” of Bible (overview). A disciplined learning environment helps prepare the student for a lifetime of Bible study. Through the facilitation of small groups and the creation of community, the DBS emphasizes personal discipleship and godly character. Additionally, the school focuses on a variety of Biblical topics building on the foundation established in the Discipleship Training School.
