COUNSELING & HEALTHCARE

health

The College of Counseling & Healthcare pursues physical and personal spiritual wholeness as interdependent and interwoven. It seeks to train and mobilize individuals to respond with holistic Christ-centered approaches of care for physical, emotional, spiritual and relational healing. Through a variety of courses and seminars, students both receive and impart Christ’s healing through health care initiatives, counselling and family ministry or a blend of all three in both urban environments and remote communities. The College recognizes the interaction between God’s power and our own role as agents of hope and restoration of relationship with our creator.

The UofN uses two types of credits, FLW (full learning weeks) and LCU (learning component units).

FLW credits are used with traditional residential courses and one of these credits requires a minimum of 50 hours of documented learning activities; these include our normal lectures, small groups, one-on-ones, etc.; and some of these activities are nonformal, in addition to the classroom activities and study assignments.

LCU credits are used for part-time programs like evening courses, intensive seminars, distance learning and other non-residential courses. Each LCU credit requires 25 hours of focused learning activities which can be spread over a period of time.

Three related courses (see below) (32-36)

      Directed Readings, Seminars (0-9)

Three related courses that form a coherent field of study may be selected by the student (in consultation with an Academic Advisor) to complete the requirements of the B.A. degree. One of these courses must be a field assignment or practicum. If two of the courses are in a field different from counseling (such as, the Arts) a 2-credit Directed Studies course (CNH 391) in the form of an integrative paper will be required to relate the field of study to counseling. Note that in this case, the B.A. degree could require 146 hours.

Experience in counseling should form an integral part of the B.A. degree in addition to academic study. Usually this will be fulfilled through the field assignment aspect of the training (a degree student needs a minimum of 24 credits of practical counseling application), but in cases where it is not, students may be asked to work on staff of a counseling ministry for a three-month period.
